Lemme announces Whirlpool as the industrial partner for the Digital Innovation Project course (Projeto de Inovação Digital), offered to Undergraduate Design students at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). The initiative aligns with the laboratory’s core mission to integrate the academic ecosystem with global industry leaders.

Tailored for upper-level students (from the 6th semester onwards), the course focuses on solving complex, real-world organizational challenges. In this edition, working in direct collaboration with Whirlpool—a global benchmark in home appliances—student teams will apply advanced design and innovation methodologies to:

  • Identify strategic opportunities within the market;
  • Validate solutions and prototypes in real-world environments;
  • Deliver tangible value to customers, users, and business ecosystems.

Focus on Open Innovation and Ambidexterity

Unlike foundational design projects, this advanced module offers an immersive experience led by Prof. Dr. Júlio Monteiro Teixeira alongside researcher and co-instructor Filipe Nóbrega. The curriculum explores how academic knowledge, technologies, and core competencies can be translated into new business models and potential spin-offs.

Team responsible for leading the Open Innovation module at Lemme.

In practice, student teams will bridge theory and industry demands, creating breakthrough solutions while optimizing real-world products and processes. This hands-on approach exercises strategic design applied to Open Innovation and Organizational Ambidexterity —the full theoretical framework and syllabus can be accessed directly through the department portal.
